Bflow – Bfree Accounting Processes Automation System

Bfree Advisor is a Swedish digital accounting agency that offers fiscal management solutions and services, including automated online bookkeeping – combined with personal and professional advice.

In short: their main goal is to advise and optimize companies for clients.

From the beginning, Bflow software was meant to be a specialized accounting application designed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden, offering streamlined solutions for digital and automated accounting processes.

The major issue?

Bflow’s tech stack was getting close to its expiration date.

It also required an overhaul modernization to meet Bfree Advisor’s ambitious growth plans and that is exactly when we stepped in.

The application’s main purpose was to simplify the tracking of receipts and incoming invoices, eliminating the need for manual data entry. That is why Bflow aimed to enhance operational efficiency and provide real-time accounting support to clients by implementing efficient processes and automation.

Since the previous Bflow’s developer was not considered as a partner anymore, we assigned one of our specialists, Maciej Janowski, to take over the project and set foundations for it.

It quickly turned out to be the best decision possible.

The initial phase involved deploying a programmer to understand the system's intricacies and assess the challenges. This reconnaissance highlighted critical scaling issues, prompting us to propose a full-scale technical support plan.

Our commitment went beyond traditional outsourcing – we decided to invest in Bflow, taking on the role of CTO and reimagining the entire system from the ground up.

In addition, our development process emphasized thorough analysis and testing (both manual and automated) to ensure a state-of-the-art system that not only meets but exceeds expectations.

This gave us a full and comprehensive analysis of the project with in-depth insights on the pain points and “low-hanging fruits”.

At this point we were ready to take Bflow to another level.

In 2023, after modernization, we gained investors and expanded the team from 1 person (+ product owner) up to 12 people.

Over the course of a year, we undertook a comprehensive rewrite of Bflow, covering both backend and frontend components as well as the entire system’s UX/UI side. Additionally, during the development process, we also added a comprehensive customer material overview, task management, and support for mass processing and automation.

It is worth mentioning that during our cooperation, Bfree Advisor also acquired funding from Swedish MVII Freedom Group — an organization establishing itself as a leading provider of accounting services in the Nordic region.

This funding eventually allowed the project to spread its wings.

• Modernization of the technology stack – Transitioning to contemporary programming languages and frameworks to enhance performance and scalability.
• A-Z overhaul – Redesigning both the UI and UX to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.
• Mobile app development – Creating a dedicated mobile application to complement the web-based system, enhancing accessibility and functionality (including 24/7 support for the whole Bflow web system).

The modernized version encompasses a comprehensive 360° accounting system and agency support. Its key features today include:

Our partnership facilitated Bflow’s acquisition of many accounting SMEs in Sweden and positioned them for future growth in Norway, Finland, or Denmark. To top that off, the modernized Bflow system is also continuously evolving as Freedom Group’s internal system.
